CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building): This qualification reflects the role of builders, site managers and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses who apply knowledge of structural principles, codes, standards and legal requirements to Class 1 and 10, to a maximum of two storeys and Class 2 to 9 Type C constructions, and who plan and supervise safe building and construction work, prepare and administer contracts, and who apply quality principles to building and construction projects.

Building relates to construction and Site Management is about managing the factors around construction, such as the deployment of crews with specialised skills (including builders), product compliance, deployment of contract specialised skills, weather and site location.

Licensing and Regulatory Requirements:

Builder and Site Supervisor licensing varies across States and Territories and requirements additional to the attainment of this qualification may be required.

Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

52 Weeks of Course duration consisting of:

  • 40 weeks of training and assessment spread over 4 terms of 10 weeks each
  • 12 weeks of holidays

NOTES:

A minimum of 20 contact hours per week of study/tuition plus 5 hours of supervised self-paced study have been scheduled by City College Pty Ltd - to ensure students meet their student visa conditions.

The course duration may vary for students who have been granted Credit Transfer (CT) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) towards this course (e.g., students have completed any units in a previous course/qualification).

Course Detail

International students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 12 or equivalent
  • Have completed the unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs. The course entry interview will also assess whether students can use digital technologies
  • Have an IELTS score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
    • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
    • Successful completion of an English Placement Test (e.g., PTE, TOEFL, CAE, OET) at IELTS level 6.0.

Note: Students who do not meet the minimum English requirement for this course will need to package this course with an appropriate English Course before they can proceed with this course/qualification.

This program is delivered in the classroom, through scheduled and supervised online sessions. A blended face-to-face and online training mode is employed for this qualification.

City College provides Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) opportunities to all students. Students may apply for RPL or Credit Transfer prior to enrolment or at any time during their studies, provided that the application is submitted before the commencement of the relevant unit of competency if they find that they have an existing competency or prior learning in any of the units offered in this course.

Students will be required to complete the assessment tasks in the assessment tool for each unit. Generally, these will consist of knowledge questions and practical assessments such as projects and observations. Knowledge questions will be completed during the scheduled, structured and supervised online sessions. Practical assessments will be completed during face-to-face sessions.

Students will have access to all the necessary resources such as lecture rooms, student amenities, free wi-fi internet connection, library access, and course learning materials to enhance their learning experience and complete their assignments.

To attain CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction 19 units must be achieved:
